Moes 4G LTE Solar Security Camera Review: Off-Grid 2K Monitoring With Pan and Tilt
Cellular connection, solar charging and a 32 GB card included, for watching places with neither Wi-Fi nor power.
The Moes S52 is built for locations that have nothing: no Wi-Fi, no mains power. It connects over 4G LTE with a built-in VSIM, runs from a 7800 mAh battery topped up by an included solar panel, and records to a 32 GB card that comes in the box. Video is 2K with color night vision, and the head pans 270 degrees and tilts 90, so one camera can sweep a yard, a plot of land or a building site. Person and vehicle detection are included and it keeps recording when the connection drops. Home Assistant support is only partial, and there is no Apple HomeKit.

Who is the Moes S52 for?
It is for a place a normal camera cannot reach. Cellular connectivity removes the need for Wi-Fi, and the solar panel plus 7800 mAh battery removes the need for mains power, so the camera can be mounted on a fence post, a barn or a caravan and simply left there. That makes it useful for land, allotments, building sites, holiday properties and anywhere else that would otherwise need an expensive install. The IP65 rating covers dust and water jets.
What it does well
Pan and tilt is the headline: 270 degrees of rotation and 90 of tilt mean one unit covers what would otherwise take several fixed cameras, and the view can be repositioned remotely rather than by climbing up to the mount. Video is 2K with color night vision as well as infrared. Recording is local to the included 32 GB card, with event history and, importantly, offline event history, so footage keeps being written when the cellular link drops. Person and vehicle detection cut down false alerts from moving vegetation, two-way talk lets you speak through the camera, and Google Home and Alexa are supported.
What to know before you buy
Home Assistant support is listed as partial, so do not expect full local control, and Apple HomeKit, SmartThings and IFTTT are not supported at all. Cloud storage, if you want it beyond the card, requires a subscription. Several specifications are undocumented for this model, including the field of view, battery life per charge, HDR, RTSP, spotlight, siren, privacy zones and customizable motion zones, which is a lot of unknowns for a security device, so verify anything critical before relying on it. As with any cellular camera, check that the site has usable signal, since without it the camera is only recording to a card nobody can see remotely. Warranty is two years.
Is the Moes S52 worth it?
Priced against Wi-Fi cameras it looks expensive, but it is competing with running power and internet to a remote spot, which costs far more. Solar plus cellular plus pan and tilt plus a card in the box is a lot of capability for a mid-range price, and the two year warranty is longer than most. The reservation is documentation: enough of the spec sheet is unstated that this is a camera to buy for its core off-grid ability rather than for a specific secondary feature.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Moes S52 need Wi-Fi or mains power?
Neither. It connects over 4G LTE with a built-in VSIM and runs on a 7800 mAh battery charged by the included solar panel.
Does it record without a subscription?
Yes. A 32 GB microSD card is included and event recording, including while offline, is stored locally. Cloud storage is the part that requires a plan.
Can the camera be moved remotely?
Yes. It pans 270 degrees and tilts 90 degrees, so the view can be repositioned from the app.
Which platforms does it work with?
Google Home and Alexa, with partial Home Assistant support. Apple HomeKit, SmartThings and IFTTT are not supported.
Does it detect people specifically?
Yes. Person and vehicle detection are both supported, alongside general motion alerts.
