Sonoff GK-200MP2-B Review: A Rock-Bottom Pan-Tilt Cam With RTSP and Local Recording

340 degree pan, microSD recording, Ethernet and an RTSP stream for your own NVR, with none of the AI detection extras.

The verdict

The Sonoff GK-200MP2-B is a bargain indoor pan-tilt camera aimed at people who want to own their footage. It records to a microSD card, keeps 24/7 and event history locally (including while the internet is down), offers a wired Ethernet option alongside 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and exposes an RTSP stream so it can feed Home Assistant, Frigate or any NVR. What it does not do is smart detection: motion is the only alert type, with no person, animal, vehicle or package recognition, and no motion zones or privacy zones. As a cheap set of eyes you can point anywhere in a room and pipe into your own system, it is hard to beat.

Best for
  • Home Assistant and NVR setups
  • Local recording without a subscription
  • Budget indoor monitoring
  • Pet and room checks

Pros

  • Very low price
  • 340 degree pan and 120 degree tilt covers a whole room
  • MicroSD recording with 24/7 and event history
  • Keeps recording events while the internet is down
  • RTSP stream works with Home Assistant, NVRs and third-party recorders
  • Ethernet as well as 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi
  • Two-way talk and a built-in siren
  • Works with Alexa, Google Home, Home Assistant and IFTTT

Cons

  • Motion is the only alert type: no person, animal, vehicle or package detection
  • No customizable motion zones to cut false alerts
  • No privacy zones to block parts of the frame
  • HD only, with no HDR and no color night vision
  • No Apple HomeKit or Samsung SmartThings support
  • Cloud storage requires a subscription
  • Wired only, with no battery backup during power cuts
  • Indoor use only, with no weather resistance rating

Who is the Sonoff GK-200MP2-B for?

This camera makes the most sense for the self-hosted crowd. RTSP support means the video stream can be pulled directly into Home Assistant, a Frigate or Blue Iris style recorder, or any surveillance system that speaks the protocol, instead of being trapped in a vendor app. Add the microSD slot and the Ethernet port and you have a camera that can run entirely on your own network and storage. It also works for anyone who just wants a very cheap indoor camera with pan and tilt to check on a pet or a room, with Alexa and Google Home available for viewing on a smart display.

What stands out on the spec sheet

Motorised movement is the headline feature at this price: 340 degrees of pan and 120 degrees of tilt let one camera cover a whole room rather than a fixed 130 degree slice. Storage is the other standout, because recording is genuinely local. A microSD card holds both 24/7 continuous history and event clips, and offline event history means recordings keep being written when the internet connection drops, which is exactly when cloud-only cameras go blind. Connectivity covers both 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Ethernet, and a wired connection is the more stable, lower latency option for a camera that streams continuously. Two-way talk and a built-in siren round out the interactive features, and Home Assistant, IFTTT (through eWeLink), Alexa and Google Home are all supported.

What to know before you buy

There is no AI anywhere in the alert stack. Motion detection is all you get, so no person, animal, vehicle, package or familiar face detection, and no glass break, baby cry, smoke or carbon monoxide sound detection. That means more false alerts from a moving pet or a curtain, and no way to filter them, because customizable motion zones are not supported either. Privacy zones are absent too, so parts of the frame cannot be blocked out, which matters for a pan-tilt camera in a living space. On video quality, it is HD only: no 2K, no 4K, no HDR, and night vision is black and white infrared rather than color. It is a wired indoor camera with no battery, so a power cut stops recording, and it has no weather resistance rating. Apple HomeKit and Samsung SmartThings are unsupported, and while the camera can record locally, the cloud option is subscription based.

Is the Sonoff GK-200MP2-B worth it?

For the price it is one of the cheapest routes to a pan-tilt camera that records locally and hands you an RTSP stream, and those two things are what usually cost extra elsewhere. The compromise is that all the intelligence has to come from your side: if you run Frigate or a similar system, your own object detection more than replaces the missing person and animal alerts. If you want a camera that sorts the alerts for you out of the box, spend more on a model with real AI detection.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Sonoff GK-200MP2-B support RTSP?

Yes. It exposes an RTSP stream, so it can be added to Home Assistant, Frigate, Blue Iris or any NVR that supports the protocol.

Can it record without a subscription?

Yes. It has a microSD card slot and stores both continuous 24/7 history and event clips locally. The cloud option exists but requires a subscription, and no card is included in the box.

Does it detect people or just motion?

Just motion. There is no person, animal, vehicle, package or familiar face detection, and no sound-based detection either.

Can it be wired with Ethernet?

Yes. It supports both Ethernet and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and the wired connection is the more stable option for continuous streaming.

Does it work with Apple HomeKit?

No. Google Home, Alexa, Home Assistant and IFTTT (via eWeLink) are supported. Apple HomeKit and Samsung SmartThings are not.
