Philips Hue Tento Round Ceiling Panel Extra Large Review: The Biggest Slim Color Panel in the Tento Range

The verdict

The Philips Hue Tento Round Ceiling Panel Extra Large is the biggest of the three Tento sizes, made for a living room, a kitchen or a large bedroom. It gives 2900 lumens at 4000K from 30 watts, tunable white from 2000K to 6500K and full color, in a panel about 1.4 inches thick that joins Hue over Zigbee, Bluetooth and Matter over Thread. It is still a single light source with no separate backlight and no remote in the box.

Best for
  • Living rooms and kitchens
  • Large bedrooms
  • Hue homes
  • Matter and Thread setups

Pros

  • The highest output of the Tento range, 2900 lumens at 4000K
  • Tunable white 2000K to 6500K plus 16 million colors
  • Matter over Thread and Zigbee, no Wi-Fi needed
  • Works with Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home, SmartThings and Home Assistant
  • Ultra-low dimming down to 0.2%
  • UL damp-location listing
  • Slim profile of about 1.4 inches

Cons

  • Single light source, no separate backlight
  • No remote in the box
  • Automations and Entertainment effects need a Hue Bridge
  • Hardwired and heavier than the smaller sizes
  • Lumen figure differs between the maker table and the headline

Who is the Philips Hue Tento Round Ceiling Panel Extra Large for?

It suits a room where one fixture has to light the whole space: a living room, a kitchen, a large bedroom or a basement. At 21 inches across it covers more ceiling than the Small and Medium, while the profile stays at about 1.4 inches. It works inside an existing Hue system or on its own through Bluetooth and a Thread border router.

What the Tento Extra Large offers on paper

It is RGBW with tunable white from 2000K to 6500K, a color rendering index above 80 and ultra-low dimming down to 0.2%. Hue lists 2900 lumens at 4000K and 2600 at 2700K from 30 watts, the highest output of the range. It repeats the Zigbee signal, speaks Matter over Thread for Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home and SmartThings, and carries a UL damp-location listing. The maker supports it for at least 60 months from purchase.

What to know before you buy

It has one light source, so the whole panel is a single color at a time and no halo can be set apart from the main light. No remote ships in the box, and automations, voice control through Hue and Entertainment effects need a Hue Bridge. The light does not use Wi-Fi. It is hardwired and about 2.3 kg, so mounting it means working with the ceiling wiring and a secure box.

Is the Philips Hue Tento Round Ceiling Panel Extra Large worth it?

It is the step up for a larger room inside the Tento range, with the same features as the smaller sizes and more light. If the goal is a backlight that glows separately from the main light, the Datura is the fixture for that. For one bright, thin, color-capable panel that fits a Matter home, this size does the job.

Size & Materials
Dimensions

Ø21 × 1.4 in Ø53.3 × 3.7 cm

US page diameter 21 inch and overall height 1-7/16 inch. The Amazon title says 21.3 inch and its model name 21.7 inch (550 mm), so the maker materials differ slightly. The spec table is used.

Diameter

21 in 53.3 cm

Diameter 21 inch on the US page.

Height

1.44 in 37 mm

Overall height 1-7/16 inch on the US page.

Weight

Net weight 2.31 kg on the US page. The gross weight of 3.77 kg is the box.

Moisture Resistance

UL damp location

The US page lists a UL damp location rating and an IP code of IP20. IP20 gives no protection against water, so the damp-location listing is the rating that counts for a bathroom or a covered area. The Amazon listing says Water Resistant without a rating.

Light
Maximum Brightness

2900lm

The US specification table gives 2900 lumens at 4000K (2600 at 2700K). The page header says up to 2250 lumen and the Amazon title 3500 lumen. The table is the one that states the color temperature, so it is used.

Color Temperature

2000-6500K

Color temperature 2000-6500 K on the maker page. The Amazon listing shows a single 6500 Kelvin value, which is the top of that range.

Color

Addressable Zones

1

One light source on the US page (number of light sources: 1), so the whole panel is one color at a time.

Why it needs a Zigbee coordinator

The Philips Hue Tento Round Ceiling Panel Extra Large speaks Zigbee, not Wi-Fi. On its own it cannot reach your phone, your voice assistant or any automation: it needs a Zigbee coordinator to join. These are the ones in our catalog that can run it.
