FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which devices are compatible with Home Assistant?

Devices from almost every brand, from robot vacuums and cameras to sensors, plugs and locks. Each category on this page links to its full list in our catalog.

Is Home Assistant free?

Yes. Home Assistant is free and open source. You pay for the computer it runs on and, if you want it, for Home Assistant Link, which adds remote access and Alexa and Google voice control.

Do I need a hub for Home Assistant?

You need a computer to run it on: a Home Assistant Green, a mini PC or a Raspberry Pi. Zigbee, Z-Wave and Thread devices also need a radio for that protocol, such as the Connect ZBT-2 or the Connect ZWA-2.

Does Home Assistant work with Alexa and Google Home?

Yes. Home Assistant can share its devices with Alexa and Google Assistant, through Home Assistant Link or with a manual setup, so one voice assistant controls every brand.

Does Home Assistant work with Matter?

Yes. Home Assistant is a Matter controller. Matter devices that use Thread also need a Thread border router.

Does Home Assistant work without the internet?

Yes. It runs on your own computer at home, so devices with a local integration and your automations keep working when the internet is down.
