What the differences mean

Memory

The GMKtec K17 Plus ships 32GB of LPDDR5X-8533, soldered and fast, while the Asus NUC 16 Pro ships 16GB of DDR5-5600 in dual-channel SODIMM slots. The GMKtec starts with double the memory, but only the Asus can be upgraded, up to 128GB.

Storage

The GMKtec K17 Plus fits a 1TB M.2 NVMe drive with a second M.2 slot free. The Asus NUC 16 Pro holds a single 512GB M.2 2280 drive, so it starts with half the capacity.

Warranty

Networking and ports

The Asus NUC 16 Pro has two 2.5G Ethernet ports and two Thunderbolt 4 ports, useful for wired redundancy and fast docks. The GMKtec K17 Plus has a single 2.5G Ethernet port, a USB4 port, Wi-Fi 6E and two HDMI 2.1 outputs.

Audio

The GMKtec K17 Plus includes a 3.5mm audio jack on the front panel, while the Asus NUC 16 Pro has no analog audio at all, no jack, no speakers and no microphone, so headsets need USB, Bluetooth or the display.

Size and power

The GMKtec K17 Plus weighs 460g and uses a 100W adapter, and its VESA mount means it can sit behind a monitor. The Asus NUC 16 Pro weighs 910g and uses a 150W adapter, and it also includes a VESA mount.
