Philips Hue Motion Sensor vs Shelly Blu Motion

The Philips Hue Motion Sensor, for most homes. It works with Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings and Home Assistant, reaches Matter through the Hue Bridge and adds a temperature sensor. The Shelly Blu Motion reaches further and costs less, but needs another Shelly device as its bridge and has no Apple Home or Matter support.

It is the lower priced of the two and it does the core job: motion and light sensing with adjustable sensitivity and a longer 9 m range. It is a good alternative in a Home Assistant home with Shelly devices, but not for Apple Home or Matter, and it cannot join a Hue Bridge the way the Philips Hue Motion Sensor does.

The radio. The Philips Hue Motion Sensor is a Zigbee sensor for a Hue Bridge or Zigbee hub, while the Shelly Blu Motion is a Bluetooth sensor that relies on another Shelly device to connect to Wi-Fi and the rest of your smart home.

Hue owners and Apple Home users who want motion, light and temperature sensing in one device that works across nearly every major platform.

Home Assistant users who already run Shelly hardware and want a small, inexpensive indoor sensor with a longer reach.
