01Information We Collect

Information you give us: your email address, when you subscribe to our newsletter.

Technical information your browser sends with every request, such as your IP address, browser and device. Our hosting and network providers process it to deliver the pages and keep the Website secure.

Measurement, only where allowed (see section 3): the pages you view, how you arrived, the searches and filters you use and the buttons you click, through Google Analytics.

Store clicks: when you click a button that takes you to a store, we record the click: the product, the store, the price shown, the page, your country (derived from your IP address, which is not stored), your device type, your browser and operating system family, and the site or campaign that brought you. If you allowed measurement, the record also carries a random identifier kept in your browser and the number of days since your first visit. If you did not, it carries neither, and nothing links it to you.

We never ask for your name and we never handle payments: purchases happen on the store's own website.

02Cookies and Browser Storage

Necessary and preference storage, kept only in your browser to make the Website work the way you asked: your consent choice, your country (to show the right store), the products you pinned for comparison, your table view and sorting, your podcast playback position, the notices you closed, and a cache of product data that speeds up the next page. It is not used to identify you and it is never sent to us.

Measurement storage, which needs your consent in the EU, the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland: the Google Analytics cookies (_ga and _ga_*), a random visitor identifier, the site or campaign that brought you (kept for 30 days) and a local history of the pages you visited in the last 30 days. That history never leaves your browser: the site reads it there to suggest products you may like, and the only thing derived from it that is sent is the number of days since your first visit, attached to a store click.

We do not use advertising cookies and we do not show ads.

03Your Choices About Measurement

In the EU, the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, a bar at the bottom of the page asks before any measurement starts, with two equal buttons: Accept and Reject. Until you choose, no measurement runs and nothing of it is stored. Your choice is remembered for 12 months.

Elsewhere, measurement runs by default and you can turn it off at any time.

The "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page reopens the bar so you can change your choice. Rejecting deletes the measurement data stored in your browser.

If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a refusal and do not measure your visit.

You can also block or delete cookies and site data in your browser settings.

04Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages and products are useful to visitors. Its advertising features are turned off: no advertising storage, no ad personalization and no data shared for ads.

Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses. Google processes the rest of the data under its own privacy policy, available at policies.google.com/privacy.

05How We Use Your Information

To provide, maintain and improve the Website, and to know which comparisons, products and pages help visitors.

To find and fix errors.

To send the newsletter to those who subscribed to it.

06Service Providers

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with the providers that help us run the Website, and only for that:

Google (Firebase Hosting and Cloud Firestore) hosts the Website and the price history it charts. Cloudflare provides network services and tells the Website which country you are in, so it can show the right store. Supabase stores the store click and newsletter sign-up records described above. Brevo sends the newsletter and runs the sign-up form, which it loads on every page. Sentry receives technical details when a page fails (the page, the browser and the error), without cookies. Google Analytics measures visits as described in section 4.

Videos are embedded from YouTube in its privacy-enhanced mode, and only load when you press play.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it or to protect our legal rights.

07Affiliate Links and Stores

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases, and we may earn a commission from other stores too. It never changes the price you pay.

When you follow a link to Amazon or another store, you leave the Website. That store may set its own cookies to credit the purchase to us and processes your visit under its own privacy policy. We do not receive your name, your address or your payment details; stores only report orders to us in aggregate.

08Email Newsletter

If you subscribe to the Smart Home Compared newsletter, Brevo stores your email address and we use it to send deals, product news and updates. Every email includes a link to unsubscribe at any time.

09Legal Basis (EEA, UK and Switzerland)

Measurement and its storage rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time from "Cookie settings".

Delivering the Website, keeping it secure, fixing errors and counting store clicks without an identifier rely on our legitimate interest in running a working, independent comparison website.

The newsletter relies on the consent you give when you subscribe.

10International Transfers

Several of our providers are based in the United States or process data there. Those transfers are covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or by the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.

11Data Retention

Measurement data kept in your browser expires on its own: the visit history and the source of your visit after 30 days, and the visitor identifier stays until you reject measurement or clear your browser data. Google Analytics keeps its data for the retention period set in our account.

Store click records are kept for as long as they are useful for statistics. Your newsletter subscription is kept until you unsubscribe.

12Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or port your personal information, to object to or restrict its processing, and to withdraw your consent at any time.

If you are in the EEA, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you can also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.

13Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure or misuse. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

14Links to Other Websites

The Website links to external websites, such as stores and manufacturers. We are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.

15Children's Privacy

The Website is not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

16Amendments

We may update this Privacy Policy when the Website changes. The date at the top shows the latest version, and a change to what we measure asks for your consent again where consent is required.
