Metering and load. The Shelly 1PM Gen4 measures power, voltage and consumption and rates 16A, while the Shelly 1 Mini Gen3 has no energy monitoring and rates 8A. The 1PM Gen4 also adds Zigbee routing and HomeKit that the Wi-Fi-focused Gen3 lacks.

The Shelly 1PM Gen4 installs without a neutral wire, which helps in older boxes. The Shelly 1 Mini Gen3 requires a neutral, so check your wiring first. Both otherwise offer dry and wet contact modes and full local control.

Buy the Shelly 1 Mini Gen3 if you want the cheapest, tiniest relay for a single light load, garage door or sprinkler over Wi-Fi, and you do not need energy monitoring, HomeKit or Zigbee. It is a great-value building block.

Buy the Shelly 1PM Gen4 if you want to measure a circuit's energy use, switch heavier 16A loads, avoid a neutral wire, or use Zigbee and Apple HomeKit. It is the more capable, future-proof module of the two.
