What the differences mean

Switch or meter

The Shelly 2PM Gen3 has two relay channels that pass the supply out to the load, and an interlock mode for a bi-directional motor such as a shutter or a gate. The Shelly PM Mini Gen3 is not a switching relay. Its channel count is not applicable, and the same is true of wet contact, dry contact and interlock. If you need the circuit to turn off, only the 2PM does it.

Safety cutoffs

Overheating, overcurrent, overpower and overvoltage protection are all on the Shelly 2PM Gen3 and all absent on the Shelly PM Mini Gen3. That matches the jobs. A device that switches 16 A has more reason to trip itself than a device that only measures. Energy monitoring is on both, per channel on the 2PM.

Matter and Apple Home

The Shelly 2PM Gen3 supports Matter, and Apple Home and SmartThings through that path, plus Alexa, Google Home and Home Assistant. The Shelly PM Mini Gen3 has no Matter and no Apple Home. Alexa, Google Home and Home Assistant are still yes, and SmartThings is through Shelly Cloud rather than Matter. Both are 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Thread is no on both.

Size and the watt figure

The Shelly 2PM Gen3 is 37 x 42 x 16 mm and 30 g, idles at 1.4 W, and can also switch DC at 30 V and 10 A. Its resistive watt rating is not published. The Shelly PM Mini Gen3 is 29 x 34 x 16 mm and 13 g, idles at 1.2 W, lists 3840 W and 16 A, and does not run on DC. Both want a neutral and 110-240 V AC. Warranty is 3 years on both.
