Dreame Z1 Pro Review: The Z1 With an Underwater Remote and More Reach

The verdict

The Z1 Pro is the upper half of Dreame's pool range: the same 8,000 GPH pump and PoolSense navigation as the Z1, rated for a larger pool at 2,160 square feet, with step and platform climbing added and a handheld remote that talks to the robot through the water over LiFi. That last part matters more than it sounds, because Wi-Fi and Bluetooth stop at the surface, so a submerged robot is otherwise beyond reach until it comes up. Floor, walls and waterline are covered, and it parks itself at the poolside when it is done.

Best for
  • Larger residential pools
  • Pools with steps and ledges
  • Manual steering underwater
  • Waterline scrubbing

Pros

  • Strong 8,000 GPH suction with dual brushes and dual pump motors
  • Cleans floor, walls, waterline, steps and platforms
  • PoolSense navigation with ultrasound and 3D structured light
  • LiFi handheld remote that works while the robot is submerged
  • Parks itself at the poolside at the end of the cycle

Cons

  • Coarse 180 micron filtration, with no fine insert
  • Charging takes longer than the cleaning cycle
  • No smart home platform integrations
  • App control does not reach the robot under water

Who is the Dreame Z1 Pro for?

It suits a pool a size class above what the Z1 targets, up to 2,160 square feet, in-ground or above-ground, and a pool with steps or a tanning ledge, which it is rated to climb and clean rather than drive past.

It also suits the owner who wants to intervene. Most cordless robots are set and forget by necessity, since nothing reaches them under water. The LiFi remote turns the machine into something you can send to a specific corner after a storm.

What stands out on paper

The navigation is the same PoolSense system that carries the range: ultrasound plus 3D structured light to detect boundaries, explore edges and zone the pool, which is what turns a fixed battery charge into predictable coverage. Automatic poolside parking closes the loop, so the robot is waiting at the edge at the end of a cycle instead of sitting at the bottom.

The pump moves up to 8,000 GPH through dual brushes and dual motors, which is at the strong end of the cordless field, and the 9,600 mAh pack is quoted at over 180 minutes in ECO mode. The filter is a 180 micron basket, and the machine is rated for saltwater up to 5,000 PPM.

What to know before you buy

The filter is the coarse one. At 180 microns it holds leaves, insects and general debris but passes the pollen and fine silt that a 3 micron insert would catch, which is where some rivals at this level pull ahead.

Charging takes four to six hours, longer than the run, so it is a once a day machine. There are no smart home platform integrations: no Alexa, no Google Home, no Apple Home, no SmartThings, no Home Assistant and no Matter, so scheduling and logs live in the Dreame app, and the app itself cannot reach the robot under water. That is what the LiFi remote is for.

Is the Dreame Z1 Pro worth it?

Against its own sibling, the Pro buys three things: about 200 more square feet of rated pool, step and platform cleaning, and the underwater remote. On a pool with a ledge or a bench, the second of those alone changes what the machine can finish on its own.

Against the wider field, it is a strong mid-range machine whose weak point is filtration fineness rather than suction or navigation. If clear water rather than a clean floor is the goal, compare it against the models that ship a fine filter insert.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Z1 Pro add over the standard Z1?

A larger rated pool area at 2,160 square feet instead of 1,950, step and platform cleaning, and the LiFi handheld remote that reaches the robot under water. The pump, the navigation system and the poolside parking are the same.

How does the remote work if radio does not travel through water?

It uses LiFi, which sends the commands as light rather than as radio. That is what lets you steer the machine or call it back while it is submerged, something the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth app connection cannot do.

What size pool is it rated for?

Up to 2,160 square feet per cycle, for in-ground and above-ground pools, and for saltwater up to 5,000 PPM. A 16 by 32 foot rectangular pool is about 500 square feet, so it has considerable margin on a typical residential pool.

Does it work with Alexa, Google Home or Matter?

No. There are no smart home platform integrations. The Dreame app handles scheduling and the cleaning log while the robot is at the surface or out of the water.

How fine is its filtration?

The filter is rated at 180 microns, which catches leaves, insects and general debris. It does not include a fine insert for pollen, algae or silt, so if water clarity rather than floor debris is your problem, compare it with models that offer filtration in the single digit microns.
