2026 verdict
Ten wired ports lose out to a lower price here: the newer Asus RT-BE90U wins out over the Asus RT-BE88U by costing less, even though the RT-BE88U holds the better owner rating.
The RT-BE88U counters with a seriously stacked wired side, ten total ports including two 10 Gbps ports (one RJ45, one SFP+) plus four 2.5 Gbps and four Gigabit ports with link aggregation, built for wired-first homes or a small business running a NAS and multiple switches. The RT-BE90U trades that port count for a dedicated 6 GHz Wi-Fi 7 radio and a friendlier price, though its four ports all cap at 2.5 Gbps with no link aggregation. Buyers who mainly care about wireless speed and want to spend less should pick the Asus RT-BE90U, while anyone wiring a NAS, switches or multiple fast devices directly should choose the Asus RT-BE88U for its far deeper port selection.
