On top of the Matter bridge both share, the Max is a Zigbee coordinator and Thread border router, adds 6 GHz Wi-Fi and comes with a one-year warranty instead of 90 days. The Amazon Echo Dot (5th Gen) keeps its place as the cheaper, smaller Dot: at 304 g against 505 g it has the same motion and temperature sensors, tap-to-pause, mic-off switch and subscription sound alerts. Neither has a 3.5 mm jack. Pick the Amazon Echo Dot Max as the first Echo in a home with Zigbee or Thread devices, and the Amazon Echo Dot (5th Gen) for extra rooms or a tight budget.
