The Amazon Echo Dot Max wins on price and on its built-in Zigbee, Thread and Matter smart home hub, plus subscription-gated sound alerts for glass breaking and smoke or CO alarms. The Apple HomePod (2nd gen) earns a higher average owner rating and fits Apple Home households better.
