Owners of both speakers say they sound better than they expected for their size and set up in minutes. Amazon Echo Pop owners single out fast, responsive Alexa, voice control of lights, plugs and cameras, bedtime routines and building a whole-home intercom from several cheap units, and some rely on emergency calling for elderly relatives; their complaints are a short power cable, a need to sit near the router, no tap-to-pause and sound that is no match for a hi-fi. Sonos Era 100 owners, some with dozens of Sonos devices, praise wide stereo separation, fuller bass and clean vocals, Trueplay tuning, easy grouping across rooms and stereo pairs as surrounds for a Sonos soundbar. They warn that true stereo needs two units, that line-in and Ethernet need adapters, that there is no Google Assistant and that the Sonos app has a mixed reputation.
