A hot bedroom is a different job from the hallway door, and the Ecobee SmartSensor is the one built for the bedroom.
It adds occupancy to temperature so an ecobee thermostat can favor the room people are in, it is rated for 5 years on a CR2477 against 1 year on a CR2450, and it is better reviewed. The Aeotec Multipurpose Sensor is the lower priced, and it is a Zigbee contact sensor that also reports temperature, vibration and tilt. Neither measures humidity. Choose the Ecobee SmartSensor to even out rooms on an ecobee system. Choose the Aeotec Multipurpose Sensor when a door, a window or a knock is the event that matters.

What the differences mean
Occupancy, or a door contact
The Ecobee SmartSensor detects occupancy and temperature for an ecobee thermostat. The Aeotec Multipurpose Sensor detects open, close, vibration and tilt, and it reports temperature, but not occupancy and not humidity. A bedroom the thermostat misreads is an Ecobee problem. A window that should pause the heat when it opens is an Aeotec problem.
Battery
The Ecobee SmartSensor is rated for 5 years on a CR2477. The Aeotec Multipurpose Sensor is rated for 1 year on a CR2450, and owners say busy doors drain it faster than that rating suggests. If you hate changing cells, the Ecobee sensor is the quiet one, provided you already have the thermostat it needs.
Platforms
The Ecobee SmartSensor lists Google Home, Alexa, Apple Home, SmartThings and Home Assistant. Matter is not supported, and the radio is 915 MHz to an ecobee thermostat.
