It puts a 3.6 inch LCD on the wall with 24-hour highs and lows, adds humidity sensing and six months of history with a free CSV export, speaks Zigbee to Home Assistant, SmartThings and a Matter bridge, and carries a two-year warranty. The Nest Temperature Sensor (2nd gen) does one job well: paired with a compatible Nest Thermostat it makes the system follow the room you choose, which fixes a house with a too-hot upstairs, but it has no screen, no humidity sensing and no alerts, automations or history, and it reaches nothing but Google Home through the thermostat. The Nest Temperature Sensor (2nd gen) still wins on battery life, rated around three years.
