What the differences mean
Room sensors or line of sight
The Honeywell Home T9 Smart Thermostat includes a Smart Room Sensor, supports more, and can follow occupancy or average rooms. The Cielo Breez Max has no external sensor support. It measures temperature and humidity where you mount it, and that mount has to face the mini-split. It will not map a second room the way the T9 does.
What equipment they control
The Honeywell Home T9 Smart Thermostat is a wired thermostat, with a C-wire adapter included, and it is not compatible with electric baseboard heat. The Cielo Breez Max never lands on thermostat cable. It sends infrared to a mini-split, window unit or portable AC and can run from USB or 24 V AC.
Platforms
Both list Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings and Home Assistant, and neither supports Matter. The Honeywell Home T9 Smart Thermostat also lists Apple Home, which is why it wins integrations. The Cielo Breez Max does not support Apple Home. The Cielo has Bluetooth and wins connectivity on that radio. The T9 is 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only.
Warranty and occupancy
The Honeywell Home T9 Smart Thermostat warranty is 2 years, against 1 year on the Cielo Breez Max. The T9 has occupancy and motion sensing. The Cielo does not. Both have humidity and temperature sensors, manual and automatic schedules, and energy savings. Only the T9 shows weather on the display.
Which one to buy if
- the furnace is ducted and one bedroom runs cold
The Honeywell Home T9 Smart Thermostat includes a room sensor and can prioritise the occupied room instead of the hallway reading.
- heat and cooling come from a ductless mini-split
The Cielo Breez Max speaks infrared to that indoor unit and keeps schedules on the device when the internet drops.
- the thermostat should appear in Apple Home
The Honeywell Home T9 Smart Thermostat supports Apple Home. The Cielo Breez Max does not support Apple Home or Matter.
- you want Bluetooth during setup and no extra sensor
The Cielo Breez Max has Bluetooth and a built-in humidity sensor. The Honeywell Home T9 Smart Thermostat has neither Bluetooth nor a need for it, because the remote sensor is the point.

What owners say
Owners of both thermostats say the old control was the problem, a hallway stat or a lost remote, and they complain about software more than about the sensor. Honeywell Home T9 Smart Thermostat owners single out the room sensor noticing which space is occupied and letting them hold a bedroom at night. They call the Resideo app fiddly, say a change from the phone becomes a permanent hold over the schedule, and report sensor batteries that run down fast. Cielo Breez Max owners single out a minutes-long setup that reads the existing handset, and Comfy mode that stops the mini-split overshooting. They need line of sight to the indoor unit, and they say the original remote can desync the app.
