What the differences mean

Screen and controls

The Sensi Touch 2 smart thermostat has a 4.3-inch color touchscreen you operate directly on the wall. The Google Nest Thermostat has a 2.4-inch color display in a compact 84 mm body, with no touchscreen, so quick changes on the wall are less direct.

Presence sensing

The Google Nest Thermostat has proximity, occupancy and ambient light sensors that drive its eco and away mode, and it sends temperature alerts. The Sensi Touch 2 smart thermostat measures only temperature and humidity and sends no alerts.

Extra room sensors

The Sensi Touch 2 smart thermostat supports external temperature sensors for balancing rooms. The Google Nest Thermostat does not, so it always reads the wall it sits on.

Apple Home and Home Assistant

The Google Nest Thermostat supports Apple HomeKit, and Home Assistant only partially. The Sensi Touch 2 smart thermostat has no HomeKit but supports Home Assistant fully.

Warranty and setup

The Sensi Touch 2 smart thermostat carries a 3-year warranty and the Google Nest Thermostat 1 year. The Google Nest Thermostat adds Bluetooth for setup, which the Sensi Touch 2 smart thermostat does not have.

What owners say

Owners of both thermostats value a guided install they did themselves and the ability to change the temperature from a phone, and both groups have a small share reporting connectivity or setup friction. Google Nest Thermostat owners single out an eco and away mode that notices when the house is empty, monthly energy reports and a clean display that shows the weather, and their complaints are a C-wire requirement, an eco mode that can be over-aggressive and control only through the Google Home app. Sensi Touch 2 smart thermostat owners single out the app's step-by-step wiring guide, the glass touchscreen and the room balancing they get with extra sensors, while some report Wi-Fi dropping after a few months and difficulty pairing an add-on sensor.
