Which of the four shapes of window covering this product is, or the shape a retrofit motor is built to move: Curtains, Roller Shades, Cellular Shades or Venetian Blinds.

Curtains hang from a rod or a ceiling track and are pulled sideways. A roller shade winds a single sheet of fabric around a tube and goes up and down. A cellular shade folds into hollow honeycomb cells that trap air against the glass, which is what makes it the insulating option. A venetian blind tilts horizontal slats instead of rising, so a motor on one usually turns the slats rather than lifting the stack.

It is the first thing to check, because the shapes are not interchangeable: a curtain driver does nothing for a venetian blind, and a tilt motor does nothing for a curtain.

- Green (positive): below 35 dB (quiet).

- Yellow (neutral): 35 dB to under 45 dB (moderate).

The covering can be sent to any position as a percentage, not just fully open or fully closed.

Percentage control is what lets an automation leave a shade at 40% to keep the glare off a screen without darkening the room, and it is also what a voice assistant needs to answer "close the blinds halfway".

The product turns the slats of a venetian blind to any angle instead of raising or lowering the covering.

Tilt is a separate job from lifting: a tilt-only motor changes how much light gets in and how much of the room is visible from outside, but the blind stays down.
